I have an open “hold” at the library and am not sure what to place on hold. I read a lot of mystery/thriller and am watching to branch out. Anyone have any good recommendation for a book with mermaids?
“The Deep” by Rivers Solomon is a dark novella about an autistic lesbian mermaid.
“Into the Drowning Deep” is a horror novel about people-eating mermaids, and involves autistic lesbians.
I have no idea why I have two books like this. I’m not complaining, to be clear.

_On Stranger Tides_ by Tim Powers was the (loose) inspiration for the Pirates of the Caribbean movie, but no crazy Captain Jack Sparrow in sight.

Skin of the Sea by Natasha Bowen – based on African myths about water spirits, so it’s a different perspective to a lot of mermaid stories. My Asian stepsister was DELIGHTED to find a book about a brown mermaid 🙂
And for a REALLY different perspective on mermaids, I’d definitely second the recommendation for Into the Drowning Deep!

Sirena by Donna Jo Napoli, historical fantasy romance.
The Salt Grows Heavy by Cassandra Khaw, horror fantasy.
