Hello all,
The last few days have been very anxiety-ridden, and I find myself unable to go through any text for more than three lines. I do not want to go into a reading slump and would like suggestions for a happy fantasy book. 🥺🥺🥺
I’m not really interested in cozy books like House on the Cerulean Sea, Legends and Lattes, or The Fairy Something Encyclopedia…
I’m looking for something immersive and non-serious (something like Night Circus can be ruled out since it does feel heavy although a fantastic fantasy read) that can transport me into a world of everything magical. (Hope that makes some sense.)
While typing this, I realized The Hobbit would be a great read in this category, but I didn’t like it much when I tried reading it earlier. I felt it wasn’t very immersive (just my humble opinion). Anyhow, I mentioned it as an example that I’d prefer over something like the books I mentioned earlier.
Thank you for your time and suggestions in advance! 🤗

I totally get what you’re looking for. You want something magical and immersive that doesn’t feel too serious or too cozy. I’ve read a bunch in that space, so here are a few that might hit the spot:
**Beware of Chicken** by Casualfarmer
Honestly such a good comfort read or listen. A guy ditches the whole “fighting for glory” thing and starts a farm in a magical world. It’s silly in the best way, full of chickens, spirit beasts, and peaceful vibes. Low stakes, very wholesome, and somehow still magical.
**The Wandering Inn** by Pirateaba
This one’s a bit of a commitment, but it’s one of my favorites. A girl from our world ends up in a fantasy land and starts running an inn. It starts off light and funny but becomes this massive, rich world you can get totally lost in. It’s immersive without being overwhelming. Falls under slice of life fantasy and then eventually slice of war fantasy.
**Jake’s Magical Market** by J.R. Mathews
This one is just pure fun. It’s a portal fantasy where a guy ends up in a magical world with a massive market full of spell scrolls and weird shops. Super easy to read, zero stress, and really creative.
**A Boy and His Dog at the End of the World** by C.A. Fletcher
Okay, this isn’t technically fantasy, and it’s set after the fall of humanity, but it has that quiet, comforting tone and strong emotional pull. I found it weirdly hopeful and very easy to sink into, especially when I was feeling off.
None of these are sugary or too “tea and scones by the fire” but they all gave me that feeling of escape and warmth when I needed it. Hope something clicks! 🤍
Discworld by Terry Pratchett
