Any books or other media to help me transition and find self-compassion for when I move abroad?
I will be moving abroad (Spain) for a program starting this school year. I am a bit worried about the adjustment. I was wondering if you had any books or media suggestions that will help me with the transition.
I don’t have a specific recommendation, but there are a million “American moves abroad” memoirs. You’d likely find one of those very relatable as you navigate culture shock.
I did a year long study abroad program in Spain. My biggest advice is to give yourself mental down time. Have quiet weekends in. Don’t feel you need to be *doing something* and sightseeing 24/7. If your program has a linguistic component, know that it’s ok to give your brain breaks and do things in English
