I recently finished Tender Is The Flesh and it's probably one of my favourite books of all time. I don't want to sound like an edgelord but I love a book that's messed up from the start and never lets up. Books that make you ask "what the everloving fuck is going on?" and make you feel like maybe you shouldn't be reading them in public.
Tender Is The Flesh is my best example, but another, significantly less weird horror book I like is Let The Right One In (John Ajvide Lindqvist). Again, not on the same level, but it definitely has it's moments
Thanks all

i listened to the audiobook, but Brainwyrms by Alison Rumfitt had me going 😨 every couple lines. absolutely amazing horror novel but definitely not for everyone! i’ve heard lots of things about Tender Is The Flesh, i’ll have to give it a go sometime 🙂
*Rejection* by Tony Tulathimutte 😐 It’s about the secret lives of incels and online trolls 😐
You might want to look into Jawbone by Monica Ojeda.
A Certain Hunger by Chelsea Summers got this reaction out of me. I audibly said “What the fuck!” several times while reading it.
I just finished the audiobook for Julie Chan is Dead and it was totally WTF. Loved it.
Omg I read the title of your post and thought “yeah, Tender Is The Flesh”, and then read the body of your post haha. I just read it like 2 weeks ago, couldn’t put it down, but also had to put it down! It was like 1984 meets Soylent Green meets so many other dystopian novels. Very thought provoking.
Other books that might meet your requirements are almost anything by Nick Cutter (The Deep, The Troop). They’re pretty messed up in the best/worst way possible.
I got you.
The Troop by Nick Cutter.
Boy Parts by Eliza Clark.
Earthlings by Sayaka Murata.
oh, i LOVED tender is the flesh. anything by Eric Larocca, like Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke, has that same wtf vibe (and that goes under the splatterpunk genre, if u want to look into it!) i’d also rec Veniss Underground or Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer, and Vurt by Jeff Noon
*Someone Comes To Town, Someone Leaves Town* by Cory Doctorow, but only horror in the sense of watching the telecoms shackle the internet.
[Fingersmith by Sarah Waters](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/8913370-fingersmith)!!
If you liked Tender is the Flesh, you will also like her new one, The Unworthy. Be ready to say “what the fuck” a million times, and also to sob your heart out.
LOVED Tender Is the Flesh!
