Books about animals similar to Eight Bears?

Eight Bears by Gloria Dickie is a great book about bears. It's a story about traveling into the habitat of each of the eight bear species, detailing their history and modern day struggles. It's a wonderful book as someone that wanted to learn more about bears.

But as someone that does not read non-fiction, I quite honestly don't know how similar this is to other books. I feel like the image I have of non-fiction (at least non-biographical) is relatively dry, more sharing of facts and dates than interweaving that with a narrative journey. I'd be glad to be wrong, so I want to read more.

But specifically I'd love to read more non-fiction about animals to learn more about habitats, behaviors, dangers, etc. Bonus points if its about orangutans. I just feel like trying to learn about animals brings either deeply scientific research or childrens books/videos.
