hey there! i (23f) used to read for fun a lot when I was younger but kinda stopped in college- I was a history major so I had to read for class allll the time.
For me, I like main characters that are relatable. i think I care more about character development than the overall plot/storyline. when I was in high school I loved Sarah Dessen and Meg Cabot books and read almost all of them. I recently read Normal People and loved it. I like sad books but could probably use some happier recommendations as well.
As far as being a history major, I prefer material from the last 300 ish years, I like stuff that helps me better understand the world today 🙂 I also really enjoy psychology and sociology type stuff.
Anyway, I want to pick up reading for fun again but don't know where to start. Most of the authors I used to read are geared towards teenagers and I don't know a lot of other authors. Any and all recommendations are appreciated! Thank you

    edit:. I prefer fiction

If you’re open to fiction I reccomend Red Rising by Pierce Brown. It’s an easier read, but a good book to get you back into things. Kind of a mix of fantasy and sci-fi and also the series that got me back into reading many years ago.

Seeing as your into history the DaVinci Code series by Dan Brown would probably be good too. It’s also fiction, but uses a lot of historical references and different groups/ secret societies like the freemasons, illuminati, etc.

I feel like I’m reading a post I could have made – also a history major who stopped reading during college 😂

Jeff Zentner has some amazing books. Have also been moving fantasy (VE Schwab A Darker Shade of Magic series and Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir both come to mind. Also loved The Seven Year Slip and The Last Love Note.
