Hey, I just recently found out that my pretty smart dad's biggest weakness is his gap in literature knowledge. He was always more of a movie guy so he doesn't even know any of the classics like "1984" or "to kill a mockingbird", which I'm buying him first just because I've read them not too long ago so I can vouch for the quality. I'm not forcing him to read anything, don't worry, he's interested too.

What other books do you think might be a good fit? He's an Eastern European in his mid 50's and mostly enjoys action movies and political dramas. He's a fan of game of thrones and Star wars but I'm not necessarily sure he would love the book versions of those. He likes comedies too but usually the more vulgar ones, if that makes sense. Anyways, thanks in advance. Cheers!

The Horus Heresy series, that is something for anybody who likes action.

There’s a book called The Great American Bathroom Book and it has 2 page summaries of hundreds of classic novels (I think there are several in the series but I’ve only read the first one). It was awesome. I’m really fussy and don’t like a lot of classic novels (To Kill a Mockingbird is awesome, Wuthering Heights put me to sleep) but I wanted to understand the cultural references. I’d get him that, and he can mark the pages for the novels he wants to actually read and just read the summaries of the others.
