I’ve really enjoyed The Bloody Chamber by Angela Carter and I’ve started reading her collected short stories, and I’ve also really enjoyed some of Anne Rice’s vampire chronicles books (and the fact that AR, especially in her later I’m-too-good-for-editors period, can be really uneven and a tad unhinged also kind of makes it interesting and raw in its own way I think).
Does anyone know anything similar? I’m thinking florid prose, taboo subjects, violence, eroticism, the macabre, gothic and grotesque. And if it’s also kind of weird, all the better.
