I am a former bookworm that has had a somewhat turbulent past 12 months – I am distracted and have not been able to successfully read in the same relaxed way that i used to for that whole time! but i miss reading? I know it makes no sense, but I would love to rediscover the part of myself that is able to get lost in a good book for an hour or two at a time.
Please tell me what your favourite things are about reading? Why do you read? What are you reading? Have you ever felt the same way that I do and managed to reignite the spark with a particular book? I'm basically looking for inspo to get back into it 🙂

A good book allows me to stretch my imagination and world build in my own head. It gives me enough detail to build but not so much that I cannot have my own unique interpretation.
I also love the community aspect of reading. I am massive on the library and book clubs (whether in person or online) and I love that feeling of sharing in story telling.
>Why do you read?
It’s a calmer and quieter activity than TV and gives me more to focus on.

I read a fair mixture of things. I do prefer fiction and span across fantasy, romance, adult contemporary, mystery, etc. But I also like non-fiction about social phenomenons and experiences.
Currently, I’m reading The Paper Palace.

Oh god absolutely. Reading goes in ebbs and flows for me. I read way more in the winter than in the summer for example because I’m usually outside more often doing things.
I always get myself back into reading with either a book I’ve already read and know I enjoy, or something on the shorter side. The accomplishment of finishing a read is often satsifying and keeps the habit rolling.
It’s entertainment that (because I’m an audiobook person) doesn’t occupy my eyes. I can do whatever I like while I read and it’s long-form so I’m not constantly dealing with a new episode of a TV show or having to find a new movie to put on.
I read to explore strange new worlds, to discover new information and ideas, to stimulate my mind, to consider (what used to be) strange ethical situations, and to sometimes just shut down the inner critic. Every once in a rare while do I get all in one book, more often though I have bookmarks in 20 different books.
Escapism.
Bonus: there are no other thoughts in my head when I’m reading – only the words on the page.
