The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison. Fantasy/Steam Punk. Long book. Beautifully detailed world building, intricate plotting and wonderful characters. Has romantic sub plot.

This has got to be most fantasy when someone goes on the “hero’s journey.” The Wheel of Time is a book where Robert Jordan specifically plays with the idea of someone who gets all this responsibility and does not want it.
