My girl friend like to read but has hit a wall with what to read at the moment. I believe she wants to read an epic type story and level of fantasy is fine high or low. She read monster hunter (too much of a boy book) but she did like it and she was liking the crown of thorns books, but she lost interest due to a friend ruining the books. She would love a woman main character book that’s not all about love or is just a spicy book(she wants very little to no spice). For those of you who have watched the anime Frieren that’s like a perfect story for her. She would probably like most other types of books but I know she is looking mainly for a female main character who isn’t a damsel in distress the whole time and it isn’t just spicy scenes or all about love. She also loves dateline so maybe if there is anything really good on the topic of like a mystery crime she may like that. Thank you in advance for any and all recommendations. If there are any books that were just amazing for you that stays away from pure love story or spicy stories I’m sure she would be willing to try them! (Currently trying to get her to read red rising and the land🤓)

Mistborn: The Final Empire by Brandin Sanderson. Despite the title it’s actually the first book of a trilogy. Fantasy with heist elements. Great female MC. Terrific book.
tell her to read julia fox’s memoir down the drain she’ll be hooked
The Old Kingdom series by Garth Nix. First book is Sabriel
The Apothecary Diaries light novel. Currently at 14 volumes (around 250 pages each) and at least 3 more coming. The anime is catching up through volume 4 currently.
I love love Frieren. This is similar. There’s romance, but she prefers to not dwell on it and is rather oblivious at times. It also takes place partially in a pleasure district and she’s so not into it lol
Edit for typos. Sorry!
Some books I’ve loved that have a strong female main character aaare:
Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett (A professor of fae ventures deep into her studies, into the fae world)
Tress of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson (a woman sets off on a pirate adventure to save a man she cares for)
Ask for Andrea by Noelle W. Ihli (the story of a serial killer from the perspective of his victim’s ghosts. Quite the thriller!)
The Jinn Daughter by Rania Hanna (Story of a Jinn woman who has to venture into the land of the dead to save her daughter)
Yellowface by R.F. Kuang (A woman steal’s her friend’s book and passes it off as her own. A stressful thriller!)
I hope you find something she loves!
*The Mists of Avalon.* it is a wonderful retelling of the Arthurian legend from the POV of Morgan Le Fay. The author is problematic, but proceeds from book sales now go to charity.
