This isn’t a self help book, but I’d recommend Anxious People by Fredrick Backman. It’s such a lovely exploration of learning to show empathy and compassion to other people and yourself. Very well written, easy to read, humours without being dismissive, and very human. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!🫶🏽🫶🏽

Not a book, but a really good short story by O’Henry. The Gift of the Magi. I read it in childhood and it had a huge impact on me.

i’m not sure that a book written by some stranger who doesn’t know the unique person that you are will be as valuable as just you learning from experience through trial and error. as long as you’re open in communication with those special friends and family that you feel comfortable being vulnerable with, you’ll learn and improve as you go along. the fact that you care, and want to be a good friend, means that you will continue to learn over time.

I think Kat Vellos’s We Should Get Together is a good primer for this. Platonic by Marissa Franco is also a good place to start. For a more feel-good, inspirational example of a strong friendship Big Friendship by Aminatou Sow and Ann Friedman is a pretty fast read. Good luck, I’m around your age and I’m finding it a tough time for making and maintaining friendships!
