I can vouch for Red Rising and Project Hail Mary. I will say if you start with Red Rising, be prepared to want to read the next five books immediately. That’s what happened to me, couldn’t put them down.

    2. Out of the ones on your list, I’ve only read Red Rising and Project Hail Mary. I thought they were both good.

      You might also like:

      * We Are Satellites by Sarah Pinsker. I think this author has an easily readable writing style. This is sci fi set in the near future, unlike Red Rising or Project Hail Mary.

      * [And Then There Were N-1](https://escapepod.org/2018/11/01/escape-pod-652-and-then-there-were-n-one-part-1/), a murder mystery novella available free online also by Sarah Pinsker

      * Dragon’s Egg by Robert L. Forward. This is very similar to Project Hail Mary, so if you end up liking it, you might like this too

      * Six Wakes by Mur Lafferty. A sci fi murder mystery in space, which you might like since you prefer to read crime.

      * Dreamsnake by Vonda N. McIntyre. Sci fi that has the feel of fantasy.

      * Rocannon’s World by Ursula K. Le Guin. Sci fi that has the feel of fantasy.

      * A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking by T. Kingfisher. Fun fantasy

      * Sabriel by Garth Nix. Fantasy
