Hi! Need book suggestions for my dad since he's injured right now and can't do much. He's 51. He doesn't really read and when he does he only reads non fiction like self help and memoirs. He's good at english but it isn't his first language so nothing with really flowery language or big imagery— just clear straightforward writing (also he claims his imagination sucks and he can't imagine anything). Since he's a beginner I think he would prefer shorter books too. I'm looking for both fiction and non fiction book recs. He's more a non fiction guy but also I wanna give him some fiction books for him to try new things. Appreciate any recs! Thanks!!

Has he ever read “The Old Man And The Sea” by Ernest Hemingway? It’s pretty short, simple, and it’s about a fisherman who reels in the biggest catch of his life.
It takes some imagination to read it but i think it hits your straightforward writing. I used to never read books until my brother got me Dark Matter by Blake Crouch as a Christmas present. That book awakened me lol.
He might enjoy Trevor Noah’s book Born A Crime.
David Sedaris is a bunch of short stories. He has a unique talent of using simple prose but painting a clear picture.
What is he into? Golf, fishing, baseball? That might help the suggestions. I love baseball and there are so many great books about baseball.
The hobbit
The Martian
