Hello! I love reading about people with vastly different lives to me. I’m especially fascinated by people who have been living a pretty consistent lifestyle for thousands of years, even after contact with outsiders. I know there are groups like this in Africa, Oceania, and South America. I’d love to learn more.
However, I worry about ethics with studies like this since I know a lot of these groups are very vulnerable. I would really like to stay away from writing that treats these groups more like animals than people and dehumanizes them. I also would feel better knowing the subjects were compensated for their cultural expertise, consented to being depicted, and didn’t suffer any harm from the study.
I’m especially interested in hunter-gatherers or pastoralist peoples, and particularly women’s lives in these types of societies.
Any recommendations?
