I’m hoping that someone could suggest a book written by a Mexican author that takes place in Mexico! I finally finished grad school and I want to connect back to my roots! Open to any and all suggestions!
I recently read Reservoir Bitches by Dahlia de la Cerda, which was longlisted for the International Booker Prize this year. It’s a collection of loosely connected short stories about womanhood in the face of violence, and I thought it was a very entertaining and powerful book!

Pedro Paramo by Juan Rulfo. A short novel that you will not forget after you read it. Gabriel Garcia Marquez said it was the start of magical realism in Latin American literature.

[Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/53152636) is the obvious answer here, and I also recommend [The Hacienda by Isabel Cañas](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/57840571) and [Vampires of El Norte by Isabel Cañas](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/63892214) which I think is even better.
