i’m hoping to find some solid author recs similar to or on the same level as david grann 🙂 i’ve read killers of the flower moon, im making my way through the wager now and im just continuously blown away by how he’s able to weave these stories in a way that almost makes me forget that im reading a non fiction book. what really stands out to me too is that his research is * very * thorough and he doesn’t make any excuses for racism or imperialism/colonialism – so im hoping to find authors with these same traits 😌 if you have any good ones lmk!

Try Hampton Sides
Patrick Radden Keefe – probably *Say Nothing* would interest you most based on what you’ve said but *Empire of Pain* is excellent as well.
Perhaps also Erik Larson who writes on a variety of historical topics.
Erik Larson. I went from Larson to Grann. They both write like fiction and just pull you in to the narratives.
Timothy Egan & Daniel James Brown
John McPhee
Timothy Egan
*Five Days At Memorial* by Sheri Fink
Jon Krakauer!
I recently discovered Ron Hansen. Reading Exiles right now and really enjoying it.
Besides already mentioned Larson, Krakauer & Keefe, I’ll add a few women to the mix:
Isabel Wilkerson
Doris Kearns Goodwin
Hilary Mantel (NF & HF)
Robert Kurson. His non-fiction books are terrific. Check out:
Shadow Divers
Rocket Men
Pirate Hunters
Drop everything and immediately buy all books written by Ben Macintyre!!! History writing at its best. Every book feels like it should be a movie or series. In fact, some of them have been or will be made into one.
