Hello everyone! I recently read "the haunting season", a collection of short original ghost stories that I really enjoyed. I am looking for a similar book but with folklore inspired tales, especially British folklore. I enjoy ghosts, fairies, and strange creatures. I am especially interested in stories that are a bit creepy (not horror, I am easily scared). Does anybody have any good recs? Thank you all in advance!

      You might enjoy

      – Fen by Daisy Johnson
      – Folk by Zoe Gilbert
      – Diving Belles as well as The Song of the Shore by Lucy Wood, – – Green Tea and Other Stories by the Irish writer Sheridan Le Fanu
      – The Ghost Stories of M.R.James

They are all excellent and more on the disturbing than full-on-horror side, I would say. But as they are ghost stories they are naturally more scary than the other recs if that’s something you’d rather avoid. (I’m not quite sure where you draw the line between “creepy” and “horror”.)

I’d suggest starting with A School Story, The Mezzotint and A Neighbour’s Landmark.

      – (Not quite “folky”/supernatural but The Pre-War-House and Other Stories by Alison Moore is also a great and unsettling read)
