Books that have lyrical prose are a joy to read as they make one experience the surroundings. So also the simple sentences that make one easily comprehend. I have observed that great authors follow different styles but ensure a balance. When reading even classics, I have seen a balance in most books.
However in modern books in literature, often I see either extremely overlyrical or usage of long complex sentences that doesn't lend to the narrative but often feels like author just straightaway converted the words without giving a thought of aesthetics. Or there is overdescription of things which takes one away from the theme or completely washed down language.

What's all of your experience in reading books and what's your perspective on this?
