Going to Japan this summer, will be flying 10 hours each way. I found that reading a book tires my eyes, so it would help me with the jetlag later on. I want a fiction that is Japan-related that's emotionally profound. Something with least romance possible, but a bit romance is okay, just not as the main focus.
I've done some research and this is the list I got:
- The Housekeeper and the Professor by Yōko Ogawa
- Before the Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi
- Tokyo Ueno Station by Yu Miri
- The Sound of Waves by Yukio Mishima
- The Samurai’s Garden by Gail Tsukiyama
- Strange Weather in Tokyo by Hiromi Kawakami
Which one would you recommend or anything else that's not on the list? I heard Murakami books offer similar theme. Any of his works you recommend?
(Just to clarify I'm looking for books in English please)
Thanks!
