So, I read Prince of Nothing from Bakker, now I'm feeling empty.
I never read anything like that apart maybe from LOTR and G. Martin.
And I enjoyed even more than that because of the grim universe, lotr is a fairy tale if compared (I don't want to say that LOTR isn't a masterpiece because it is, is just my personal taste).
I loved how deep and ambiguous all the characters were, the lore developping slowly, the exquisite way it has been written, the story unexpected from the beginning to the very end..
Now anything I open seems "superficial".
I'm looking for something with that level of art and I feel that that book put the bar too high in me.
Sadly I can't read the other three books because are not translated yet in my language (italian) and I'm just not at that level of knowledge of english.
I tried and I had to open 10 times the translator just for the first three pages ç.ç
Any suggestions about books that felt like masterpiece in all his aspects?
Not necessarily grimdark (but this is a plus to me), just something that make you feel amazed while reading it.
Thank youuuuu!

Ah my favourite question, I got you covered
**Book of the New Sun**
This is the only series I found that goes harder than second apocalypse, will stay with you forever. It’s sci-fi that reads like fantasy, echoing the sci-fi aspects of Khellus and company. BotNS is also widely accepted as the pinnacle of the Dying Earth genre.
**Malazan**
This is a reverse recommendation, usually I tell people coming from Malazan to do Second Apocalypse next. It’s a masterpiece on 10 volumes. Also has some sci-fi lizards. Very grim. A joy to read, again a series that will stay with you.
*40K?*
Also a fun note: some in the 40k community say that second apocalypse could easily be a peripheral world in that universe, probably connected to slaneesh. I don’t read 40k novels as I favour independent authors over corporate product-placement books. But the lore might appeal to you
