I need book recommendations where the characters are forced to play games for whatever reason or they any book that includes games and trials in it.

I don’t know, if this is what you are looking for,but Stefan Zweig wrote a novela about Chess, in German Schachnovelle, in English Chess. Wonderful book and a great author. The movie Grand Hotel Budapest was made as a hommage to him.
There is also a horror novel by Richard Laymon about a scavenger hunt, that totally got out of control. I liked the book until roughly the middle – it did build up a lot of suspense and was creepy, but not over the top, but after that it just lost the plot and became pretty brutal and dark. I didn’t know anything about Laymon then, so I wasn’t warned. If you like more extreme horror scenarios, you might like it, it is pretty popular in the horror community ( I love horror, just not like that, I can’t say more with going into spoilers). The book is called ‘In the Dark’
