      Conn Iggulden is your next best bet. His Caesar and genghis khan series are both amazing.

      Another good option is Bernard Cornwell. His King Arthur series is very good as well

      If you’re ok with light fantasy elements you might like Guy Gavriel Kay as well. A good starting point is Lions of Al Rassan which is based on Andalusian Spain
