I’m looking for stories where, for at least the bulk of the book, there’s some kind of apocalyptic or freaky phenomena that the characters only have limited knowledge of due to where they happen to be when it happens.
An example might be “Moon of the Crusted Snow” (haven’t actually read, but know a lot about it via a friend), where (I’ll remain vague) things are happening potentially globally, but because the characters we follow live in a remote area cut off from most other civilization, we don’t truly know the scale of what’s going on or why.
Oh, another good example would be “We Need to Do Something”, where (again, just sticking to the basic premise to avoid spoilers) the family takes shelter and is then trapped in a bathroom, while extremely wild shit happens outside that they can’t fully/directly witness or understand.
Can be any genre. The extent or details of the phenomena/outside world can be revealed at some point, or not. As long as this is a major theme, I’m interested.
Thanks!
