Hi all! Looking for a book to gift my husband for father's day. He has trouble finding books he can get into, but when he does he eats them up. He loves books that are action focused and have well crafted world building. Sometimes he dabbles in science fiction but he can also find sci-fi a bit overwhelming if it's too much lore. Examples of books he loves are The Orenda by Joseph Boyden, Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky and The Terror by Dan Simmons. Thanks in advance!!

    1. It’s a fundamental dad requirement to at least TRY to read *Lonesome Dove* by Larry McMurtry. It’s one of those books that even people who never thought they’d read or enjoy a western finish and say “damn, that was incredible.”

Does he like fantasy? If so, he might like the First Law trilogy by Joe Abercrombie. Has good world building but not a massive amount of lore. Has plenty of action. First book is: *The Blade Itself*.

If he’s read Dan Simmons, the Hyperion Cantos is an excellent sci-fi. It has great world building as well, but you don’t need to look at a Wiki page to understand the story either, lol. First book is *Hyperion*
