hello everyone. i have been looking for a good lesbian book for like two years now and absolutely no dice. i feel like they’re all cutesy young adult romances or really poorly written dark romance stuff. now i understand the appeal of some of those but it’s really not my thing. i usually like older books (my favourites are like, evelyn waugh’s stuff and i’m a huge fan of women in love by dh lawrence to give you an idea of what sort of gay romance i enjoy) but older lesbian books are all things like well of loneliness which just made me feel too miserable, though i’m sure it’s a good book. does anyone have any recs?

The seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo
I liked Breaking Legacies by Z.Reed
You Can’t Spell Treason without Tea by Rebecca Thorn (fantasy)
Bloom by Delilah S Dawson (horror)
Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree (fantasy)
I only just started Sunburn by Chloe Michelle Howarth, but so far I’m enjoying it. A similar coming-of-age lesbian story is A Sharp Endless Need by Marisa Crane.
I also really enjoyed both Our Wives Under the Sea by Julia Armfield and Big Swiss by Jen Beagin, but those are a little more on the weird girl side of sapphic.
Priory of the Orange tree and its prequel
The Safekeep by Yael Van der Wouden!! might be my favourite book honestly, its a lesbian historical romance set in post world war two and it manages to pay off on its romance without being cheesy, and explore themes of possession.
i’ll throw in a few more here:
This is How You Lose the Time War – of course
Zami: A New Spelling of My Name – a non-fiction title. its a biography of a black gay woman. not sunshine and rainbows but it celebrates lesbian sexuality and is gorgeously written
Gideon the Ninth – and the rest of the Locked Tomb series. not exactly peak literature, but a fun read. lesbians in space!
