I prefer books without romance as the main plot and would like to focus on books that offer fantasy or magical realism without it threading romance directly through it.

Sub plot romance is fine, but I prefer it in the style of some of these novels:

The before the coffee gets cold series,
    Mrs miracle,
    The heart,
    Etc…

(If you haven’t read any of them please look it up to know exactly what I mean.)
I don’t want recommendations that pretend romance isn’t thier main plot but very obviously is.
I’m trying to get more into the depths of the fantasy world!

I’m trying to get more into the fantasy genre!

Although this is a kid series, I love it so much and I think fits your description.

      ranger’s apprentice by John Flanagan

The world building is amazing, there’s some romance but that’s in the late books and not the main thing, and I think I’ve heard that it’s quite historically accurate (it’s placed at around medieval times).
