book about capitalism (philosophy, history, etc)

any recommendations for a non-fiction book on capitalism? it’s obviously a huge buzzword but when pressed, a lot of people can’t seem to explain it well / relate it to their argument and I want to understand why it started and why it’s not working any longer. TIA!
