i'm looking for spy thrillers like Patriot, that don't really fall into the nationalistic stuff. Especially looking for books where where espionage is treated as a really thankless job (sort of like Slough House in that respect too). Basically just espionage books with lots of nuance, and doesn't attempt to assign political "good guys" and "bad guys" in particular (like Deutschland as well is a historical spy thriller i like). It's a genre in my head called "clinically depressed spies", it just calls to me like pie on a windowsill for some reason
