The only book I can think of WWZ by Max Brooks, where a significant part of the book its about the global collapse of modern society (Called the great panic) during a global zombie outbreak.
Any other book where collapse of modern society its an important part of the plot?

Dies The Fire by SM Sterling
Station 11
Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel
There’s about a zillion apocalypse books. They’re common as dirt.
Just search your library for post-apocalypse fiction. Tons of ’em.
A couple of my favorites:
A Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter M. Miller Jr.
The Survivor Journals by Sean Patrick Little
1984 by George Orwell
Cat’s Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut
The Stand by Stephen King
Severance by Ling Ma.
I’m not sure if nonfiction quite covers what you’re looking for, but Symphony For The City Of The Dead by MT Anderson covers the siege of Leningrad during WWII and the writing of Shostakovich’s Leningrad Symphony.
Parable of the sower by Octavia Butler
The Stand is the be all end all of this imo, such a slow burn collapse, first half of the book. Station Eleven is close but nothing in comparison.
Children of men.
Maddaddam trilogy by Margaret Atwood
Foundation trilogy by Isaac Asimov
Both cover the actual collapse of society, as opposed to the aftermath only
I can’t recommend Maddaddam enough
The Postman by David Brin. It’s much better than the movie.
The Power by Naomi Alderman
‘Daemon’, and the sequel ‘freedom’
Can’t recall the author’s name…
The Dog Stars by Peter Heller
The Stand probably does this better than any book I’ve read.
The fifth Season
A newer one (due to climate change) is The Deluge by Markley.
