I know this is kinda a niche thing, but I'm Asian American and I really want to read books about Asian Americans that take place in Asian countries, not in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, etc. One good example is This Time It's Real by Ann Liang, which explores a Chinese American girl's journey upon moving back to China.
It would be best if it's not too heavy and would be fit for a summer read. Thank you so much!

Try Amy Tan.
Loveboat, Taipei by Abigail Hing Wen and XOXO by Axie Oh both fit your criteria I think and are similar to This Time It’s Real (based on the summary – I haven’t read TTIR)
In case you haven’t read it or watched the movie, *Crazy Rich Asians* by Kevin Kwan is about an Asian-American woman going to Singapore to meet her fiance’s family. I didn’t like the writing quality (to me it felt like they just published his first or second draft), but it’s good for a summer read IMO.
