Hey there, readers! I'm looking for (preferably an audiobook) something that's oozing with atmosphere, mystery, and cosmic horror, major bonus points if large portions of it take place in dusty/forgotten libraries.
Some examples of stuff that hits some of these elements are:
- The Fisherman by John Langan
- The Music of Erich Zann by H.P. Lovecraft
- The Shadow Over Innsmouth by H.P. Lovecraft
- The Terror by Dan Simmons
- The Boys from Brazil by Ira Levin
- And a Steam game, Book of Hours
Hopefully all of these examples aren't too disjointed. Thanks for your time!

It doesn’t take place in a dusty library, but I think you might enjoy A Cosmology of Monsters by Shaun Hamill. It’s not your typical cosmic horror, but is definitely atmospheric and packs a serious emotional punch
The Library at Mount Charr
Foucault’s Pendulum by Umberto Eco. Like Dan Brown for smart people lol
The Name of the Rose is also apt if monastery libraries count
The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern
Piranesi by Suzanna Clarke
Both are oozing with atmosphere and beautiful writing. Starless Sea has the dusty library element too.
The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon
The Atrocity Archives first in the Laundry Files series by Charles Stross has overt Lovecraftian themes
The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova
The Eight by Katharine Neville
The Labyrinth by Kate Mosse
