I'm looking for a book of short stories or vignettes with a fantesy or sci-fi vibe. Not interested in anything romantic, angsty YA themes of vampires, etc., or horror, sleep is in short supply as it is these days.

    Example books I've recently enjoyed:

    Grimm fairytales

    Princesses behaving badly

    Fragile things, Neil Gainman

Stroke of the pen, Terry Pratchett

    TYIA fellow readers!!

There are several short-story collections edited by Ether Freisner which are certainly Fantasy/Sci-fi. In release order, they are-

      Chicks In chainmail
      Did you say Chicks?
      Chicks ‘n chained males
The Chick is in the mail
      Turn the other Chick
      Chicks and balances

These contain stories featuring female protagonists and the majority of stories are written by female authors.

The Best American Science Fiction and Fantasy is a yearly anthology of short stories and novelettes. It’s been published for basically forever.

Ray Bradbury’s best work was in short stories. *The Martian Chronicles* and *Golden Apples of the Sun* are both worth checking out.

Karen Russell’s short story collections! A lot of fantasy / fairy tale adjacent vibes but really literary and beautifully written. Orange World and St Lucy’s Home for Girls Raised by Wolves are my favorites.
