I just finished tender is the flesh – and I think this is the first time I have found a book that will truely haunt me – I am honestly struggling to put it into words how I feel – even now I have written multiple sentences and then deleted them because everything I say seems to be a contradiction – but the one thing I know is that I will carry this story with me for a long, long time

Are there books that haunt you, for one reason or another?

    1. Just read the road by Cormac McCarthy.

That basement thing was disturbing. Ending makes me cry.

My dreams have never been the same after House of Leaves. They have an M.C Escher flavor to them now much to my dismay.

    3. This may sounds simple… and im sorry if it is but… Bridge to Terabithia put me in a crying sobbing coma for days when I was a kid. Just brutal. Beautiful though.

    4. The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. The raw depiction of human emotions and the need for redemption.

“Zombie” by Joyce Carol Oates. I wish I could unread it.
“The Troop” by Nick Cutter gets an honorable mention for how graphic it was.

    6. I really enjoyed Tender is the Flesh. I saw a comment for The Road as well. Both good reads. Silence of the Lambs is an all time favorite of mine so that might suit you.

Following this to get some suggestions as well. Thanks.

I had to put TITF down as it affected me so severely. And I didn’t even like the prosecco, but some of the images were so effectively disturbing.

The book Betty by Tiffany McDaniel also disturbed me, and I kept having to step away from it, but it was so beautiful I kept coming back until I was an absolutely devastated mess. If you’re looking for a book that is a balls to the wall emotional rollercoaster I can’t recommend it enough, but proceed with caution. All of the content warnings

      Invisible Women (non-fiction)

Eveey section surprised and infuriated me. I’m a woman and never realized what a stupid Man’s World we live in.

Tender is the Flesh is hands down one of the most disturbing books I’ve ever read, totally agree with you. I see the hypocrisy of the main character in current society/ppl in general all the time and it’s scary. The ending of the book was insane.
