Recently graduated with my Lit degree. Without them assigned to me, I’m having trouble finding a new book to read that will require some in-depth thinking and reflection. I’ve read enough feel good books lately and want something that challenges me or has me critically engaged (if that makes sense?). I used to have amazing professors to assignment great books from their personal libraries, now I fear I might waste a 500 page reading to something that ultimately might lead me to disappointment (as much as I’m used to the feeling).
And while my education of authors was quite diverse, I always wished my professors included more black authors. I took a Black Literature course but that semester specifically focused on black horror, and while one of my favorite classes ever, I’m not looking to pick up a horror novel at the moment.
Would anyone happen to have any recommendations that might fit what I’m looking for? Any personal favorites? I don’t trust google algorithms or AI to give me a genuine answer.
