Suggested something with a competition/survival/tournament to get me out of a reading slump.
Looking for books featuring some kind of competition between the characters. I'm going through a reading slump and would like something I can't put down.
It's a bonus if it is fantasy and a series instead of a standalone.
How about The Sunbearer Trials by Aiden Thomas? First in a fantasy duology and the second is already out.

How about The Night Circus by Erin Morganstern?

A deadly education and sequels although it is not exactly a tournament. It’s definitely survival and competition

Red Rising by Pierce Brown. Sci fi fantasy

The Seven and a Half Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton. —speculative fiction of some sort. It’s a standalone but is kinda like a competitive murder mystery.
Enders Game by Orson Scott Card—sci fi instead of fantasy. But it’s a series and the whole plot revolves around competition.

The Assassin Bride by Anastasis Blythe
Fantasy and part of a trilogy. The third one comes out in August. Human FMC, fae MMC. The Neverseen King (shadow fae mmc) is in need of an assassin bride for “reasons” so he kidnaps assassins from throughout his kingdom and holds a competition in his palace. The winner becomes his bride if she doesn’t die first … I feel like it will grip you from the first chapter.
This book (and series) is so excellent. It has such a unique plot. I recommend the audio version over the standard book x100 because the narrator is too good to miss. She truly brings the characters and story to life. It’s on Hoopla and Audible.
