Some friends of mine gave me a sizable ThriftBooks gift card and I'm looking for books to spend it on. Typically I buy my books from local used bookstores, a process I really enjoy actually, but some books, especially foreign and/or less well known ones, are difficult to find at my usual haunts. Those are the exact type of book I'm looking to buy online.
I typically read literature/classics, plus a bit of science fiction when I'm in the mood for something lighter. Favorite authors/books of mine include:
– Cormac McCarthy (The Crossing, Blood Meridian, All the Pretty Horses)
– Kazuo Ishiguro (The Remains of the Day, A Pale View of Hills, An Artist of the Floating World)
– Toni Morrison (Beloved, Sula, The Bluest Eye)
– John Williams (Stoner, Butcher's Crossing, Augustus)
– Virginia Woolf (To the Lighthouse, The Waves)
– William Faulkner (The Sound and the Fury, Absalom, Absalom!, As I Lay Dying)
– Albert Camus (The Myth of Sisyphus, The Stranger, The Fall)
And for SciFi:
– Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky
– Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie
– Excession by Iain M. Banks
– The Dispossessed by Ursula K. LeGuin
As you can see, my taste is pretty basic (and pretty male-dominated), so recommendations that align with my taste but expand my horizons a bit are much appreciated!
