Historical fiction with romance that doesn’t overtake the plot?

Looking for a HF read that has a romance between main male and female characters but isn’t necessarily categorised as a romance novel (and also isn’t written like one). Would be great if the plot is something other than the relationship and is actually exciting and with slight adventure. Closed door if there is anything, but preferably no spice also.

And would be helpful if the MC isn’t a Mary Sue or Gary Stu. When the MC is somehow wonderful at everything (and for no reason) and especially when it causes them to put down other people to make themselves look good, this really pulls me out of the story.
