My daughter loves fantasy but it’s becoming tricky to find books that are complex enough for her to enjoy, but don’t have content that she’s not ready for. I’m looking for a fantasy series that might hit that middle ground.
She loved Keeper of the Lost Cities, though I think she’s grown out of those over the last year or so. She enjoyed the Grishaverse books and the Hunger Games and those are probably right at that middle ground we’re looking for. She also read and enjoyed all of Brandon Sanderson’s books (YA and adult series).
Other books she’s like to give an idea of what she enjoys:
* The Lunar Chronicles
* The Kiss of Deception
* The Selection
I picked up These Violent Delights for her at the library without having looked into it much and she said it was too violent for her.
Are Tamora Pierce’s books going to be too young for her? Any other suggestions? It’d be really great if it was an older series with lots of books already out.
Edit: Ideally no sexual content, but if there is some, please nothing more explicit than fade-to-black.

okay so this seems like she wants high fantasy without the brutal death and gore and no sex unless fade to black correct? i want to make sure im giving you the right books.
Tamora Pierce hits that sweet spot. The lady knight books were my jam at that age!
If she liked Brandon Sanderson, then she will probably like {{Eye of the World by Robert Jordan}}. It was actually finished by Brandon Sanderson (he did a real good job).
I think I started reading that series when I was around that age. I’m pretty sure there isn’t any strong sexual content, more of the “fade to black” stuff you were referring to.
The series is 14 books and a prequel. I would probably read the prequel last (if at all). Ignore the Amazon series on Prime Video, it is trash.
Tamora Pierce books would be perfect. You could also try the Graceling series by Kristin Cashore.
The Old Kingdom series by Garth Nix
David Eddings
Elizabeth Haydon
Dave Duncan
Percy Jackson & the Olympians by Rick Riordan is a really good series. Highly recommend!
His Dark Materials series was my favourite around that age, as a formerly big fantasy fan.
