I've been rereading call me by your name as it's the summer. It's beautiful, much better than the film, I'd love to read something like it but all the suggestions I find online are only similar in that they're about a gay romance. Other than that they have nothing in common.

I'm looking for a book with the same sweeping, powerful, prose. Something poetic and achingly beautiful. A classic would be nice too, but not necessary. Something where I read a line and I have to stop for a few seconds to take it in fully.

Sorry if I sound pretentious, I don't know how else to describe what I'm looking for.

    1. I get what you mean! Let me suggest these: Death in Venice (Thomas Mann) and The Gold-rimmed Spectacles (Giorgio Bassani). They both feature homosexuality but not as a main theme/trope. Both are classics! Both are a bit advanced language-wise, you will notice they are older. Be aware: Neither will make you swoon! Let me know if you need further spoiler to find out, if these are right for you. 🙂
