Often us readers enter a trance and the book which we’re reading is the only thing on our mind. I used to be like this with most books when I was in middle school but now due to academic pressure I do not invest my entire time to a book.
Lastly, the Divergent trilogy took me the shortest time to complete- I finished the entire series in three days.

lol 😂 new moon back in the day.. I was so angry with the beginning of the book I just wanted to fly through it as quickly as possible.. and the immortal series by Alyson Noel.. unfortunately I haven’t found a series since middle/high school that has entranced me like that. 😔 I still read books and enjoy them just wish I could find something that makes me unable to put it down for real
The very hungry caterpillar, literally in seconds
You have a loophole.
The Martian in 1.5 days.
Novellas read quick because they’re short.
The last Harry Potter book I was so sad I finished it two days after it came out. I went to the midnight release and read it so disgustingly fast that I stopped and went back to reread chapters because I wanted it to last longer.
I’ve gotten better about enjoying books and putting them down for breaks.
Animal farm. I read the entire book in a little over 2 hours. It was good.
Johnny Got His Gun
The Kaiju Preservation Society and Starter Villain, both by John Scalzi. Short, uncomplicated, and lots of fun. About 4 hours each for me.
Fear and loathing in Las Vegas. Couldn’t put that one down
I read about half of Robert Jordan’s Eye of the World (Book 1 of Wheel of Time) in about 9 hours. I was around 14 and I went to bed at 8pm and read straight through until 5am. I remember this clearly because Dad woke me up 30 minutes later to force me to go fishing for the day.
There are several that I’ve read in a day. The first three Harry Potter books, Misery. A couple Clive Cussler books have been knocked out on long flights.
The Last Unicorn by Peter Beagle. Read it in one day.
The Urge, by Carl Erik Fisher. I read quit lit a lot as I assess my relationship with alcohol but it was this book in particular that caused me to read it in one go. I had picked it up one day and the next I had to take my car for an oil change but there was a miscommunication on time with the shop so I read it cover to cover in a Starbucks across the street haha. I’m usually a decently fast reader but never a good sized book in a single day, but for that one.
David copperfield. Borrowed it from a friend from primary school, gave it back the next day. I did not learn anything from my classes that day.
The Old Man and the Sea springs to mind
The Metamorphosis – Kafka
I went away with my family and brought the Maze Runner series with me – I don’t remember anything about the holiday because I spent every spare second reading! Such good books 🙂
