Try something by Mariana Zapata. All Rhodes Lead Here is great. The Wall of Winnipeg and Me transcends the Marriage of Convenience trope (if you read it, you’ll figure out why).

Kate Canterbary’s early works avoid being excessively tropey though her new stuff can be. (In a Rush and In a Jam are basically the same exact plot, which annoys me to no end.) Necessary Restorations, The Cornerstone, Restored, and The Spire are just so great with the way they overlap and form a big story about three of the most abused Walsh children finding people who help them heal. Personally, I’d say start with Underneath It All and follow the series because even though they’re a bit basic, there’s important Family Lore in the first two books.

Also check out Ashley Poston. Her brand of magical realism Romance is the farthest thing from tropey.

Business or Pleasure by Rachel Lynn Solomon (probably the healthiest relationship I’ve ever seen in a romance, which is impressive considering it starts with a crappy one night stand)

Love on the Brain by Ali Hazelwood (kind of enemies to lovers, but more like rivals; she thinks he hates her for no reason when actually he just sucked at communication)

Sun Is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon (the greatest love story I have ever read)

A Hope Divided by Alyssa Cole (Civil War spy romance)

Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen (summer romance)
