I recently realized that Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is over 200 years old. I think it’s an incredible book, and obviously I am not the only person who thinks that since it is literally being taught in schools across the world to this day. However, I am aware that it wasn’t until many years after its publishing that it got the kind of recognition and credit it deserved. This got me thinking about modern literature and the “ceiling” of it. Pride and prejudice was a pioneer of its time and it made way for similar books to be written in the future. The books of today are the products of thousands of years of literature, but they must also be setting ground for some new movement of literature to thrive in the future. What are some books that you think are carving their own paths in modern literature and will be appreciated as such in a hundred or so years?
