    Hey everyone!
I need a book to fill the space while library holds come in. Big horror fan but read a bit of everything – thriller, psychology, cozy fiction (loved Before the coffee gets cold series), some YA, and open to trying new genres / styles. This subreddit has been helping me find new books for a bit !

    Recent reads include :

Dead of Winter- Darcy Coates /
We Used to Live Here – Marcus Kliewer /
Stolen Tongues – Felix Blackwell /
    Penpal – Dathan Auerbach /
When Haru Was Here – Dustin Thao (outlier , I know) /
    Hex – Thomas Olde Heuvelt.

    Thanks, friends !

It’s about a shadow person who visits a POW in Andersonville Prison Camp and offers him a way home back to his village in Rhode Island, but the two wind up in a wild odyssey of supernatural trickery, savage brutality, and a life and death battle that is very weird and haunting. Set in the same town in Rhode Island, Scituate, that H.P. Lovecraft set the “blasted heath” in The Colour of Outer Space,” it details how the town of Scituate that once had 14 villages ended up under water by supernatural forces. It isn’t like other horror novels in the genre. I think it takes more chances, is more literary, and the epilogue ending, which is a photographic scrap book is pretty damn haunting and unlike any book, of any kind, I’ve ever read. And it changes everything you just read before it into a new horrifying light. It is one of the many great aspects of the book!

The Starless Sea and The Night Circus for cozy fiction. For a thriller, girl with the dragon tattoo for sure

    3. For classic horror (which you can freely read online) – The Shadow over Innsmouth by H. P. Lovecraft

My favorite series is the Green Bone Saga by Fonda Lee so I always recommend people give that a try. Especially since at first it didn’t sound like something I’d normally read, but I’m so glad I gave it a chance!

Did you like When Haru Was Here? You might enjoy I Am Not Jessica Chen by Ann Liang. I’m not sure what drew you to When Haru Was Here, but they both have themes of self discovery.

I’m also going to throw this one in here as a wild card – I just finished a middle grade book called, Bad Badger: A Love Story by Maryrose Wood. Even though it’s middle grade, the main themes are self-acceptance and friendship, which can be relatable at any age. You said you liked cozy fiction and this was SO sweet and cozy. I rated it 5/5 stars, so since you’re open to reading things you might not normally, just thought I’d add it in! 🙂
