Okay so I'm looking for a book that is kind of a romance but doesn't exclusively focus on the romance part. Any genre is fine but I prefere fantasy (so I'm mainly looking for romantasy I guess). I'm not looking for something super mushy or cliché but please also no dark fantasy. I feel like the whole "good girl" stuff gets very cringey very fast. I am totally open to spice but it has to make sense and not just be there because OoOooh spice if you understand what I mean.
I just want strong chemistry between the characters and tension that makes has non-romance readers heart beat faster too. But also a good main plot.
Bonus points if it's queer!!

I liked The Curse of Chalion by Lois McMaster Bujold. It is fantasy but there are a few love subplots.
Imajica by Clive Barker, please just trust me on this, it will change you.
