I pretty much read every Sherlock Holmes work twice already. I have now moved on to Agatha Christie but while her books are good reading them back to back is a bit repetitive. The thing I enjoy about Sherlock was it wasn't ALWAYS about murder. Often the mystery is an odd set of occurrences that reveal a soon to be bank heist etc. Is there books of detectives that handle all kinds of cases much like Sherlock?

My last bit of recommendations were ok but not exactly what I was looking for. Some one suggested Jack Reacher books which I did enjoy but those were more thriller than detective. Another suggested Joe picket and I read the first one but again, more of a ranger, not exactly a sleuth. I also tried The Bat which again was a great book but too dark for my taste.

Edit: just to clarify, I'm not looking for "Sherlock Holmes" remakes. I read one "Young Sherlock Holmes" book by a different author and I felt like it didn't truly capture Dolye's image of the man at all and seemed a bit more of an adventure book instead. No I would much refer in most cases new characters entirely that can have some Sherlock like traits like brilliant detective skills but still have 100% absolutely nothing to do with the man or that universe. Allot of these remakes come off as Fanfics no offense to any one in particular.

The Angel of The Crows by Katherine Addison

    2. The Mimicking of Known Successes by Malka Older is sort of a sci-fi take on Sherlock.

Raven Black is the first book in Anne Cleeves’ crime novel series that’s based in the Shetland Islands.

    4. Not novels but short stories- Black Widowers by Isaac Asimov. Group of friends have a monthly dinner together with someone bringing a guest. Guest inevitably has a mystery to solve.

Mysteries aren’t even usually crimes, just mysteries. One murder in the series. There are 50+ stories.

“The House of Silk” is a Sherlock Holmes novel written by Anthony Horowitz, published in 2011. It’s notable as the first Sherlock Holmes novel authorized by the Conan Doyle estate. The story is set in 1890s London and involves a complex case involving a fine art dealer, a dangerous criminal, and a mysterious organization called “The House of Silk”

The subsequent “Moriarty” by the same author is equally excellent.

The Alienist is a crime novel by Caleb Carr first published in 1994 and is the first book in the Kreizler series. It takes place in New York City in 1896, and includes appearances by many famous figures of New York society in that era, including Theodore Roosevelt and J. P. Morgan.

      Excellent work set in NY

Have you heard of the Cormoran Strike novels by Robert Galbraith (but actually JK Rowling)? The first on is called Cuckoo’s Calling. That was pretty good

The Barbara Holloway series (skip the first one until later. It is an outlier.)

      Tony Hillerman’s series

Tinker, Tailor, soldier, spy. Also Smiley’s People.

    8. Carol O’Connell’s *Mallory’s Oracle* first in a series. A sociopath raised by a murder cop follows in his footsteps. Taut drama.
