I recently began researching reviews on the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews to see if it may be something I'd be interested in reading. But I can't find any reviews addressing the specific content I'm curious/concerned about–namely, explicit or graphic sex scenes.
While I'm specifically concerned with how graphic or explicit the sexual content in the series is, any information you can give me on it is welcome!
If anybody has read the series and wouldn't mind telling me more about it so I can make a decision about it, I'd be grateful!

There’s not a lot of graphic sex in the series. There are some threats of SA in book one, but actual sexual content is fairly moderate. Open door, but not excessive.
They are quite tame.
In later books, there are some open door sexual scenes between the two main characters, but they are a) not particularly long, and b) specifically included and written to show the emotions and interactions between them, rather than from an intent of “oh, I wanna read about hot people banging.” (Sidenote, I personally enjoy reading books that are mostly just hot people banging at times, so that’s not at all a judgment. Just information. Lol.)
If those kinds of scenes bug you, I think they are easily skimmed / skipped.
I’ve read the first three books. They’re fun.
I’ll just add that you can check romance.io if you want to know how explicit sex scenes are in a book!
Nothing very graphic in my opinion, few scenes throughout the books are very short & not super explanatory (I’m currently on book 8!)
UGH I don’t know where to start, other than:
“I would never, ever, ever, ever, ever read a romance with shapeshifters. Or an urban fantasy, period,” is what I said to the friend who said it was her favorite series. …And then I devoured all 10 books in maybe 15 days.
Ilona Andrews (actually a couple, which I find fascinating!) EXCELS at world-building. You don’t have to be a shapeshifter fan (you can absolutely be repulsed by them) to love the Kate Daniels books. The sense of humor is as strong as the research is in-depth. I love that the character development is taken seriously—you don’t reset to baseline at the beginning of every book—and how characters act and relate to each other is well-founded.
I could go for hours on this but I will just say: they were a REVELATION. I loved them. I wish I could read them all over again for the first time, and I still haven’t read any other shifter books and never plan to 🙂
