It's summertime, and so it's peak family vacation season!
I always hear about people getting through "SO MANY" books while on vacation.
Who are you and how are you managing that??
When I go on vacation with my partner and our dog, it's all about doing stuff where we are. We camp a lot too and that always involves a lot of cooking and long walks.
I might get two 30-minute sessions in a weeklong vacay, but I have to really declare that time and then I feel guilty.
Are your partners readers too? That must be the secret no one ever mentions. (If you didn't guess by now, mine's not a reader.)

I grew up with a lot of road trips and I usually would burn through books as a kid when we went on vacation that way. I also think my family are more lowkey about vacations so we don’t usually have a really busy schedule.
It wasn’t until my trip to europe with my mom I found I didn’t read a whole lot during that time because of our schedule. I was able to get through 1 book though.
Sitting by the pool/on the beach whilst they swim/sunbathe is the answer.
There are “do something” vacations and “do nothing” vacations. You seem to be taking the former, while people reading tons of books are taking the latter. (I’ve done both.)
Different vacation goals. I think a lot of people are all about beach vacations where you lounge around on the sand getting a tan and occasionally wading into the water or having a picnic in between sitting there with your book for much of the day. Personally I really like that kind of thing, too. If you go with your family, they can set you up in charge of the coolers and stuff while they all go splash in the water and build sand castles.
Usually I’m a Visit All The Museums type of person but sometimes we go camping or we visit a town we’ve been to before and there’s plenty of time for reading. We spent a week in Ireland last year and I read 5 books! Best holiday ever!
It helps that I’m a morning person but my partner isn’t really, I naturally wake around 6.30 and he naturally wakes about 9/9.30. So I have 3 hours to myself to read while he gets a holiday lie-in. Bliss!!
A lot of people take vacations that basically amount to hanging out at the beach or on a giant boat most of the day which is where most of the reading time comes from. You seem to like more active vacations, and you might not have quite as much down time.
My husband is this way. He joins the family for meals and will come with us places, but he usually brings several books. He read all day yesterday while we were at the beach with his family. The rest of us were swimming and paddle boarding and he was reading.
I have Lupus, and have to limit my time outside. Video games and books are how I pretend I’m out touching grass lol
Also, I fall asleep to audiobooks, so I get a lot of coverage there
