Magical Creatures Cosy Fantasy with a barely there romance subplot

Hi everyone,

I used to be a big high fantasy/sci-fi reader but recently I've been hating every book I've tried. I've come to the conclusion that my personal life has left me in a position where I can't handle any big stakes (I'm fine – just a lot going on!).

I recently read The Phoenix Keeper and The House in the Cerulean Sea and I love the 'our world but with magical creatures' vibes they had, plus little to no real stakes. I also really liked the romance as a very weak subplot, as in only really developing in the last chapter or so.

Has anyone got any suggestions for more books along those lines?
