… But still have the occasional decently written sex scene.

Hopefully this isn't too inappropriate to ask for in this sub, but I don't think he'll be interested in much the r/romance sub has to offer. I'd like to keep him on the literary hook with a different kind of intellectual foreplay that could segue into… other activities.

Otherwise he's super into thrillers, sci-fi, history, fantasy, mystery, and horror when it comes to TV and movies, and I have a feeling he'll be into books that similarly follow those themes. I started with East of Eden by John Steinbeck and he responded very positively.

I would be so appreciative of any recommendations! Especially if other men have input on what they've enjoyed!

Agnes and the Hit Man by Jennifer Crusie. An atypical romance, it was cowritten by a guy who does spy novels. So you get a romance plot, but the guy is a hit man, the girl hits people in the face with cast iron frying pans, and you also get a murder mystery, a dog, a tribe of swamp dwelling hillbillies, the mafia, and a beserk flamingo. Light spice scenes that fade to black as things get going.
